The award-winning Pivot project is a pre-war studio revamped into a modern adaptable small space containing a secret bedroom.
The brief called for hosting 10 for dinner, sleeping 6, a home office, a private study, and an efficient kitchen for a client that loves to entertain, all within a 400 sf studio apartment.
A spacious serene white room opens up to display warm ash interiors as the walls and furniture move to reveal their multi-functional nature.
Pivoting a large floor to ceiling cabinet filled with storage reveals a wall-bed and creates two separate rooms that can be used independently.
Closets extend out from the wall with pulldown rods and drawers creating a large dressing room.
A sofa unfolds allowing guests to sleep in their own private room.
The kitchen features a backsplash that lifts to reveal storage behind. A height adjustable table can be used for a home office, serve as additional kitchen counter space, or be extended into the main space for dinner guests.
A deceptively compact washroom feels spacious and spa-like with a double sink and a hinged glass door that temporarily creates a shower stall when needed. Entrance closet doors have built-in shelving to accommodate shoes, hats and accessories, all lit with an illuminated hanging rod.
