The Transformer project is a corner unit studio apartment transformed into a flexible modern loft. A clean and simple haven of light and space was the goal, visually unencumbered by possessions while providing the hyper-functionality required to make daily living both pleasurable and effortless.
Project scope included a home office with extensive library, a private bedroom area, separate space for the occasional overnight guest, an entry “mud-room” that could accommodate shoes and other accessories, while also allowing for the entire apartment to open up for maximum entertaining space.
Built-in millwork creates a calm white backdrop throughout, revealing a contrasting lush walnut interior within. Cabinets stretch from floor to ceiling, maximizing use of space, folding, sliding, and responding to different needs. Sliding a wall carves a bedroom from the living room, while revealing a library. Tilting down a wall-bed unveils a walnut clad sleeping area complete with bedside niches. Tiled washroom walls open to expose laundry hampers and linen closets.
Pressing a button converts a table into a kitchen island, complete with secret compartments inside.
Wheeled benches provide additional storage, as do custom sofas, which combine to create another bed for guests.
